We can assist with referrals to specialist services or investigations as required. We offer blood pressure checks, medication management, and lifestyle recommendations to help you maintain your health&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>Blood Tests&nbsp;<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Blood tests play a key role in the early detection, monitoring, and management of a wide range of health conditions, supporting your overall wellbeing and helping you live a better quality of life.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your doctor may refer you for blood tests if deemed necessary in the following situations:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Routine monitoring: if you have a chronic condition, regular blood tests can help track your health. Your GP will advise on the frequency of these.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Symptom investigation: if you are experiencing symptoms that require further investigations, a blood test may help identify the cause.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Preventative health checks: blood tests may be used to assess risk factors for conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol, or thyroid disorders.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bloods are sent to Awanui Labs for analysis. Results are then reviewed by your doctor and are made available to enrolled patients via <a href=\"https:\/\/patientportal.myindici.co.nz\/login\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">myindici<\/a>\u2122, or by text or phone.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the exception of some specialised tests, most lab results are available within a few days.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>Cardiovascular Risk Assessments\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cardiovascular disease (heart attack or stroke) is the leading cause of death in NZ.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A cardiovascular risk assessment (CVRA) will let you know what your risk is of having a heart attack or stroke in the next 5 years. We offer guidance on lifestyle changes, medication management, and preventive care to reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CVRA is recommended for women from 55 years (45 years if you are M\u0101ori, Pacific or Asian) and men from 45 years (35 years if you are M\u0101ori, Pacific or Asian). These assessments are funded for some patients.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are experiencing chest discomfort, shortness of breath, dizziness, unusual fatigue, or an irregular heartbeat, call 111 immediately.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>Certificates &amp; Medicals&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our doctors can complete the assessment and forms required for most certification requirements, including sick notes, WINZ, ACC forms, driving medicals, insurance medicals, and pre-employment medicals.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please note some certificates and medicals are not funded and incur additional fees.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>Cervical Screening&nbsp;<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cervical cancer is highly treatable if detected early. All women and people with a cervix aged 25-69 who have ever had intimate skin-to-skin contact or been sexually active should have regular cervical screening every three years. Together, regular screening and HPV immunisation provide the best protection against cervical cancer.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You should get screened even if you:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>are immunised against HPV&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>are single <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>only have sex with women <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>have been through menopause <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>are no longer having sex<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have had a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) check with your nurse or doctor if you still need to be screened.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>There are now more options for how you have cervical screening done:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a simple vaginal swab test for HPV, either done yourself or with help from a healthcare professional<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;a cervical sample taken by a healthcare professional (used to be known as a smear test).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Talk with your healthcare provider to decide which option is best for you.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If HPV is found, you may need to have a follow-up test or be referred directly for colposcopy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more information: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timetoscreen.nz\/cervical-screening\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cervical screening | Time to Screen &#8211; National Screening Unit<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>Child Health &amp; Immunisations\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All immunisations on the national schedule for children are free until they reach 18 years of age.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can make an appointment with the practice nurse for your child\u2019s immunisation. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthnz.govt.nz\/health-topics\/immunisations\/national-immunisation-schedule\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Zealand National Immunisation Schedule<\/a> shows which immunisations (including boosters) your child is recommended to have between the ages of six weeks and twelve years, and when they need them. It is very important that vaccines are given at the correct time to protect people who are most vulnerable to illness, especially children and older people.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The immunisation schedule helps to protect children from preventable diseases such as:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chickenpox<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diphtheria&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Haemophilus influenzae type B&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hepatitis B&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HPV&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Measles&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mumps&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pneumococcal (types of)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Polio&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rotavirus&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rubella&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tetanus&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whooping cough&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We highly recommend vaccinating your child and are happy to answer any questions or discuss concerns.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We provide 6-week child checks, and we also have a Child Protection Policy.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>Chronic Disease Management&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chronic Disease Management is a proactive, long-term approach to healthcare that focuses on helping patients manage their ongoing condition.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We provide a comprehensive disease management programme including screening and ongoing management of diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, asthma, COPD and heart failure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>Contraception &amp; Family Planning&nbsp;<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We offer contraceptive advice, prescriptions, and fitting\/removal of contraceptive devices such as IUDs (coils) and implants.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your choice of contraception will depend on your age, health and the status of your relationship. Talk to your doctor or nurse if you are unsure which method is best for you. They will ask about your health so they can recommend the safest contraception for you.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Options include:&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Condoms&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Oral contraception&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Depo Provera&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Long-acting reversible contraceptives (IUD\/Mirena, Jadelle Implant, Copper intrauterine device)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emergency Contraceptive Pill (Morning after pill)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Funding is now available for long-acting reversible contraception. Please discuss your eligibility with your GP or nurse.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>COVID-19 Vaccine&nbsp;<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">COVID-19 Vaccines are now available at ProMed for eligible patients.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you&#8217;re aged 5 years or over, you&#8217;re eligible for a free primary COVID-19 vaccine.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you&#8217;re aged 30 years or over, you&#8217;re eligible for a free COVID-19 booster every 6 months.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Patients under 30 who are at higher risk are also eligible for a free booster every 6 months (similar criteria to those for a free flu vaccine).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A non-funded COVID-19 vaccine is expected to be available soon for patients who aren&#8217;t eligible for funded doses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pfizer is the only COVID-19 vaccine available for use in New Zealand.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more information, see our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.promed.health.nz\/?page_id=11902\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">COVID-19 vaccine FAQs<\/a> or visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthnz.govt.nz\/health-topics\/immunisations\/vaccines-aotearoa\/covid-19-vaccines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Health NZ&#8217;s COVID-19 vaccine page<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For health &amp; safety we ask people with respiratory infection symptoms to remain in the car park or stay at home. If you need an in-person consultation, then our staff will arrange this during your call.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>Diabetes Checks&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Diabetes is a serious condition where the level of glucose in the blood is too high. There are two types, caused by either a lack of insulin (type 1) or increased insulin resistance (type 2). Diabetes can lead to serious complications, including kidney failure, blindness, limb amputation, and increased risk of cardiovascular disease.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Diabetes is often silent and therefore we recommend everyone is checked, especially if you are over 40 years of age or have risk factors. We&#8217;re here to work with you to help minimise that impact, offering lifestyle advice (nutrition and activity), medicine management, and support. Electrode patches attached to your skin measure the electrical impulses your heart gives off, producing a trace that can show information about previous heart attacks or problems with heart rhythm. This is funded and available from the age of 11 until 26 years. Please discuss the scheduling and doses with one of our nurses. The ideal time to have this vaccination is prior to any sexual contact. The vaccine does not protect against all HPV types; therefore, women who have been immunised must continue to have smear tests.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>Liquid Nitrogen Treatment&nbsp;<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Liquid nitrogen can be used to treat verrucas, some skin lesions and warts. A doctor\u2019s consultation is needed prior to liquid nitrogen to determine if this is the best form of treatment. Once the lesion is diagnosed, consecutive treatments will be carried out by the nurse. Often the lesion will require more than one treatment.
